Legal Rights

Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974

The Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 , also referred to as HSWA, HSW Act or HASAWA, is the primary piece of legislation covering occupational health and safety in Great Britain. The Health and Safety Executive with local authorities (and other enforcing authorities) is responsible for enforcing the Act and a number of other Acts and Statutory Instruments relevant to the working environment.

Advantages for this Act are :
•   A reduction in the number of working days lost due to illness and injury
•   Retain your staff
•   Motivate your workers and boost productivity
•   Protect the reputation of your company
•   Shield yourself from potential legal action and reduce your insurance premiums

Disadvantages are:
Millions of working days are lost due to work-related illness and injury.
Thousands of people die from occupational diseases.
Around a million workers self-report suffering from a work-related illness.
Several hundred thousand workers are injured at work.
A worker is fatally injured almost every working day.

The Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988

Is the current UK copyright law. It gives the creators of literary, dramatic, musical and artistic works the right to control the ways in which their material may be used. The rights cover: Broadcast and public performance, copying, adapting, issuing, renting and lending copies to the public. In many cases, the creator will also have the right to be identified as the author and to object to distortions of his work.

Advantages
If people copy items and distribute them they do not receive any money.
Companies that invest time and money into projects will recap the benefits.
Who ever copyright and get caught they can be used by the owner.

Disadvantages
A lot of people break this law and it is hard to catch people out.
Some people don't realise that copying software is illegal.
People also think because no one can see it the it's not a crime.

Actor's agent and ambulance service

Actor's Agent

Most actors’ agents are simply called talent agents. They represent people appearing in television, film, theater, radio, industrial, commercials and promotional work. Talent agents can specialize in any of these areas as well as voice-over work, stand-up comics, singers, dancers or magicians. Agents can also choose to provide talent for the modeling and print industries.
Agents recruit talent to represent, usually working alongside other people at the talent agency to amass a stable of actors with the sought after “look” or age range. Usually, aspiring actors send their head shot, resume and film reel to the agency for submission, and the agent decides who they want to meet with.

Actor's agents now must use a lot of ICT in the 21st century as they need to know where to look for the jobs, sending emails, contacting the actor and many more. They need to find the best auditions for their client so they can make as much money as they can as they only get a 10% cut of the job.
Agents can have as many clients as they want but they will have to keep up with all the pressure from each client and get them the best auditions you can find which might be hard if you have similar actors and they both get put up, they might not be happy with this and they could fire the agents.

Agents in 1987 were very differnet from the agents in the present day, they had lower means of communication, find auditions was a lot more demanding and very stressful.

Agents would find a lot of audidtion through a news papers and letters, this would consist of telling the agents the auditions and what bthe role would consist of and the type of people they are looking for. Agents would call  the company and tell them that they think they have the right person for the job and they would offer them their clients CV.

Agents cummicating was a lot longer to do and getting information around was a lot harder than it is now, now you can send a email straight away or text and get a reply almost instantly.

Ambulance case study

The ambulance service is not just about responding to a 999 call with an emergency ambulance crew. There is also a team of people with different roles who provide the vital back-up, as well as the non-emergency patient transport service that is so valued by the community.

Before the accident and emergency crews take to the road, other members of the trained team take the 999 call, decide rapidly what action is needed and then ensure that it happens.

If the situation is critical, one of the control staff might have to talk a distressed caller through a lifesaving procedure or collect more essential information as the ambulance travels to the scene.

Here are 6 factors that the Information Age has affected the emergency services:

resequencing: including parallel processing of data-bases

simultaneity: making information instantly available in several systems (e.g via OLE)

time extension: offering 24 hour a day; 365 days a year service

portability: taking service and products closer to the user

reusability: using information captured for one purpose (e.g. transactions), and
using for others (e.g. customer targeting)

The workplace - allowing work from home and on the move, as in telework

Digital Divide

Digital Divide

I struggled to find a decent and recent discussion on google groups about the digital divide, but I did manage to find one from March 19th briefly discussing a few factors of the digital divide. On the page it is about how teenagers access to Internet is a factor of the digital divide even in more developed countries. They believe low-income households that can't afford to get full useage of the Internet at properly are disadvantaged.

By using discussion forums like this they have there ups and downs. They aren't always reliable as don't know where the information has came from but also there is a lot of biased opinions on the page. But from reading these pages can find opinions on each side of an opinion. So these pages can help research but may need backing up with reliable sources of information.

Online services

Today I used my standard SMS to message my friends and checked up on twitter too. I also went to KFC to get a box meal, I decided to go and get it instead of getting a takeaway as I prefer KFC and a takeaway would cost me more. I also watched a DVD instead of streaming it on my ipad because I was watching it with my brother. I streamed Liverpool vs southhamton game on my computer as it wasn't on sky sports.

Today I used my social media sites such as Facebook and twitter, on Facebook I juts watch new Vine video because they make me laugh. I also used SMS services to message my friends at ouch to see where they was instead if trying to guess because I don't think I would have found them otherwise.

I also used FaceTime to FaceTime my friend and tell him I have the new gta game, I spent the rest of my day playing Frankline and didn't use any other online services.

Online services

Today I downloaded the new iOS7 on to my ipad, this took some time to complete! I also used SMS and whatsapp to message my friends.
I then used it to do some research for my economics homework because I didn't understand a few word, I used Siri to define wires for me as it is quicker then using a dictionary,

I also when onto Iplayer to watch the new bad education, only on iplayer it release the next episode a week early so I can watch it before it aires on bbc three so I don't have to remember to go and watch it when it does come out.

Cloud

Cloud Services

Google Docs is a cloud services as anyone can access it through the cloud and can share with anyone you want to. Google Drive is a cloud services, this is because you can instantly use it on google and share it from there. It is also free which means you don't have to go out to go and get Microsoft Office as it will cost you.

Cloud services provider is done by google's cloud services provider.

Microsoft offer a cloud service but I think you may have to pay something or make an account to use this service.

I can use the cloud as I can make an account and when I'm out and about with my iPad and I search wi-fi i can sometimes find the cloud as some shops have it which they let customers use for free, i found this out when I went to Weymouth many shops had the cloud there and was all free to use as long as you had an account to sign in with.

Online Servies

This is my daily blog for yesterday as I forgot to make one. Yesterday I used SMS to text my friends about film times. I went to watch insidious 2 and decided to buy the tickets when I got there instead of buying it online as i wasn't sure what time we was going. I also emailed a seller who should have dispatched my ICT AS book but it hadn't so i had to chase him up so see whether he is going to send me my product.

Downloading goods and services

Downloading goods and services

Dowload Items

-Music albums from Itunes
The reason I downloaded it instead of buying it is because I wanted to have the songs on my iPad and iPone not a CD which I don't even use.

-Films
I download films as it is cheaper to do, I use Netfilx this is a cheaper way for me to watch movies as I don't have to leave my house to go and get the film then waste more money on the film when I can steam it straight from Netfilx.

These are the only thing I generally download that i can also get from the shops.

eBay

Visiting ebay

"Ebay is an online auction service that allows users to sell merchandise and prospective buyers to place bids on a wide variety of items. The time of the auction can last anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. Throughout the duration of the auction, bids are accumulated. At the end of the auction, the bidder with the highest bid is then awarded the item"

 http://www.ehow.com/how-does_4896408_ebay-work.html#ixzz2f3AfPWz2

The target  auidence of eBay is everybody, anything and everything can be brought on eBay ( to a certain extent). The benefits of eBay is that during this reccession that eBay autions off products cheaper than they would be in stores thats why here ( the UK ) especially it has become increasingly popular.

Weather in my area

Weather in my area

This is showing me  what the weather is gong to be like for the next 5 days in Bedford,  this isn't 100% accurate i will be updating the blog for the next 5 days saying whether the prediction for each day was accurate.

Real Time information

Real Time infromation

There are many types of real time information such as; weather, traffic, sports scores and aeroplane times. I use this for mainly checking the football scores and train times when I go on the train to London mailly. This is really useful as I can plan my journey on what time I need to leave and when to avoid the peak times to save me money on my ticket . I also use it to check my teams score which is Liverpool, and the lastest news on whats happened there.

Plan a journey

Planning a Journey

I will be planning a journey from my hometown Bedford to Tottenham court road in London, i will be seeing what is a quickest and cheapest way to get there train to by car.

Train

This shows I will leave Bedford at 9:18am and return whenever I want on the same day. the ticket will cost be £26.00 but this card means I can use it on the underground, because Tottenham court road is an  underground station I will have to use the tube will will take me another 20mins so my overall journey should be 1 hour.

Car

This show me that it could take anytime from 1hour - 2 hours depending on traffic and as i am going near central London it will be very busy and I think it will take me around about 2 hours with is a lot longer than the train. i am estimating that the cost of this whole journey by car will cost me +£30.

Overall I think taking a train will be for efficient for me, save me money and it will help my carbon footprint.

E-mail quiz

My e-mail quiz results were...

What is an e-m@il

This is what I think an e-mail is

An electronic mail is done through the Internet and can be view on an electronic device from a computer to a handset.

"In computer terms, email is short for electronic mail. It is a more up to date method of transmitting data, text files, digital photos, and audio and video files from one computer to another over the internet. This phenomenon did not become popular until 1990 and now it is a major business and personal communications."

How Emials work...

About Blogs

The most popular blogging sites are wordpress http://wordpress.com/, blogger http://blogger.com/, Vox http://vox.com/ and Travelpod http://www.travelpod.com/.

The blogosphere is world of bloggers: the World Wide Web environment in which bloggers communicate with each other or you can just read other people blog around the world.

'Bing Dictionary'

Companies and organisations would use blogs to promote their products and find out what the consumer would like/want, so this can gives business ideas on what sort of products the consumer actually want this is a market research technique.

The term "weblog" was coined by Jorn Barger on 17 December 1997. The short form, "blog" was coined by Peter Merholz.

By 2004, the role of blogs became increasingly mainstream, as political consultants, news services, and candidates began using them as tools for outreach and opinion forming. Blogging was established by politicians and political candidates to express opinions on war and other issues and cemented blogs' role as a news source.

A Blog I follow

I follow www.metro.co.uk and the last blog I read was about Liverpool FC and their business in the Summer tranfer window and how they were successful on who they brought and how they did their business early and relax for the ending hours for the transfer window. The blog also mentioned how Liverpool most successful transfer was keeping top goal scorer Luis Suarez.

Welcome to Vishal's first post

Welcome to my blog!

Welcome to my first post on blogger. I will be making a daily entry for my AS ICT course. I hope you will enjoy my blogs and continue to read and enjoy them.
